The institution was created in 1969 with the name Digital Research Center (CID), later Central Digital Research Institute (ICID), in order to develop the first Cuban computer, which ended in 1970. In the mid-1980s, the ICID refocuses its principal activity on the design, development, production and sales of medical devices, including the after-sales service activities for them. In 1995, COMBIOMED was created as a commercial brand and marketing company of ICID. In 2012, ICID and COMBIOMED joined the BioCubaFarma group, representing all companies in Cuba's biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical equipment, and devices industries.
In December 2018, ICID and COMBIOMED merged and the company COMBIOMED DIGITAL MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY, a closed-cycle company:
